Life has its ups and downs. The best we can do is live and learn, move on, and share our experiences. Darren Eldridge, the main songwriter in Sweet Rebel D., has plenty to talk about. Many of these tales come off as dark and heavy, but each has its resolution, where a trial is overcome and a lesson is taken to heart. He plays some local gigs as a soloist, frequently on his acoustic resonator guitar. In trio mode, to supplement Darren's raw lead vocals and electric guitar, his long-time friend Bill Rust adds acoustic guitar, vocal harmonies, and an improvised bass drum: an old suitcase (with a tambourine inside) rigged to a kick pedal. Moriah Wenning rounds out the 3-part vocal harmonies and blends piano into the mix. The result is an earnest, down-home, alt-country/folk-rock sound with a huge dynamic range: hollerin' and foot-stompin' are obligatory. This Sunday at 10 pm in the 103.1 KCDA Local Lounge, Sweet Rebel D. will perform several songs live in the studio, some as a trio and some by Darren solo on his dobro.
