Internet goes bananas over park ranger's gorilla selfie

But first, let me take a selfie… With some gorillas?

A park ranger snapped a photo with two orphaned gorillas at a national park in Africa, and the photo has since gone viral.

According to NBC News, Ranger Mathieu Shamavu was working at Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, when gorillas "Ndakazi" and "Ndeze" struck a pose during a photo op. Both gorillas are orphans who have been raised in the park.

Virunga National Park clarified the photo was legit.

"You might have recently seen caretakers Mathieu and Patrick’s amazing selfie with female orphaned gorillas Ndakazi and Ndeze inside the Senkwekwe center at Virunga National Park. We’ve received dozens of messages about the photo. YES, it’s real! Those gorilla gals are always acting cheeky so this was the perfect shot of their true personalities! Also, it’s no surprise to see these girls on their two feet either—most primates are comfortable walking upright (bipedalism) for short bursts of time," Virunga National Park wrote in an Instagram post.
