The destruction of the Riverfront Pavilion IMAX was originally scheduled for March, however the city has decided to move up the date to this coming Monday, January 29th.
The IMAX, originally built in 1978 four years after Expo '74, became a money losing venture after losing it's rights to first-run IMAX movies and removed from the future of the Pavilion as of 2014.
The remaining Pavilion space will be transformed into an event center hosting everything from Hoopfest awards to concerts. You can see the plans for that here.
A Promenade is also scheduled to be built with well lit walkways that lead residents through the park and into the Pavilion space. Click here to see the plans for that.
