Elbow Grease: Vanity & Bedside Tables

My wife, Laura, and I recently decided to finally start putting in the work to make various home improvement projects and Pinterest ideas come to life. I hope to keep updating this blog with our progress including any videos we reference, tips, and things we learn along the way!

First up, the vanity and bedside tables.

I don't know who made the decision that all laminate furniture needs to be one ugly shade of brown or another, but it may be time to go back to the drawing board.

Ultimately we're hoping to brighten up our bathroom away from the dull brown and make it a very beachy theme, and started by referencing the following video of a very similar looking dresser.

First up sanding! Full disclosure we bought a sander that is WAY to high powered off Craigslist. But hey, it was $10 and with a bit of touch and a couple nicks here and there we were able to make it work. It also was missing the bag, but the following idea took care of that.   For the nooks and crannies we used 120 & 220 sanding sponges and wiped away the residue with TSP cleaner leaving it all ready for paint.

Next, we used one coat of Kilz Latex Primer and three coats of Behr Interior Semi-Gloss in Sea Salt White from the video above.

For the handles though we switched it up using Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.

In the end we're super happy with the outcome! The vanity is just one we were gifted years ago full of dings and dents. The bedside tables are actually from a hotel off Craigslist for just $25 total for the matching set.
