Katie Couric Apologizes For Dutch Skating Comment

I'm going to be 100% honest when Katie Couric said this during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies I completely took her word as gospel.

"It's probably not a newsflash to tell you the Dutch are really, really good at speed skating.

"Why are they so good you might be asking yourselves? Because skating is an important mode of transportation in Amsterdam, which sits at sea level. As you all know, it has lots of canals which freeze in the winter. So for as long as those canals has existed, the Dutch have skated on them to get to place to place, to race each other and also to have fun."

My reaction was to turn to my wife and say, "Wow! That's so interesting," but it turns out my real reaction should have been to do some Googling which would tell you that, while those in Amersterdam will skate on the frozen canals, it is quite infrequent that they do freeze and far from an "important mode of transportation."

Naturally those from the Netherlands began to sound off on Twitter with some genuinely hilarious feedback.

Finally Katie Couric issued an apology, but honestly none was needed. These memes were well worth it.
